HOME is where the heart is or it should be, but guess what? There are a lot of teens that do not have a place to call home–they are HOMELESS! Teen homelessness is a huge issue in our society and a lot of people are not aware of just how serious it is. 1 in 3 homeless people in the U.S. are under the age of 18.
There is no one definition of teen homelessness. Some of the adolescents are “runaway youth,” because they purposely left an intolerable domestic situation. Other more general homeless youth can have many reasons why they are on the street. Some of the general issues are: family poverty and lack of affordable housing, teen non-acceptance, substance abuse, abusive parents, foster children coming of age, and youths of homeless adults.
